Volunteering – a path to a new career
“I’m very grateful for my time at Home–Start thus far and how that has informed the new role I have just been successful in applying for as a Teaching Assistant. Volunteering with my Home-Start family highlighted, once again, that I gravitate to supporting children and I rather like to think that the elder of the family’s two children affirmed that. On one of our buggy walks this little three–year–old of few words hastened across the park towards where he goes to play group. Mindful that he may be frustrated at it not being his time to be there we decided that if we at least acknowledged the location that may connect with him. We walked up to the entrance, and I thanked him for showing it to me. He seemed satisfied with this. My spin on this was that he wanted me to be there too. Whatever his truth was, that certainly resonated with the child support worker in me.”
