For Lauren, volunteering with Home-Start has opened up learning and career opportunities.
“I really had lost my way when I joined the Home-Start Prep Course. My children had left home and I was working part-time in a boring job that robbed me of the energy to do anything other than watch TV on my free days. A friend mentioned she was going to volunteer and over a period of a few weeks ‘worked’ on me. From the first day of the course I have loved every minute. I feel sad when I leave a family but know that I have been a part of their journey to a better place. Just as Home-Start has been for me – I have just finished an access course and looking forward to studying for a Social
Work degree next year – me, a degree student, who knew!”
